Therapy Practice
As a clinician, I put my client's individual needs first. Everyone experiences life differently, and I value listening to each individual's story, so I can adapt therapy to meet their needs and help them make positive changes in their day-to-day living. Please read below to learn more about some of the therapies I use.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy:There is a focus on mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness in this therapy.
Play Therapy: I have worked with youth for much of my career, and in that, I learned the importance of play in sessions. Play can help build relationships and process feelings and thoughts. I am in the process of becoming an Registered Play Therapist.
Cognitive Behavior Therapy: In this therapy, there is a focus on the interactions of thoughts, behaviors, and emotions. Changing one can change the others.
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy: In TF- CBT, a child learns to manage strong emotions through developing coping skills with the support of their caregiver, which allows them to process trauma.
Eye Movement and Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR): This is a trauma-focused therapy, which utilizes bilateral stimulation to help reprocess painful memories from past experiences.
Trauma Art Narrative Therapy: This therapy pairs wonderfully with TF-CBT. I use a combination of art and storytelling to relieve negative emotions from the past.
Substance Abuse Counseling: While in graduate school I completed my Practicum focusing on substance abuse prevention and treatment. Since then, I have continued my work with addiction with adults and teens, both inpatient and outpatient focusing. I am a chemical dependency counselor II (CDC-II).
